Overview
The primary goal was to replace a legacy web presence with a high-performance platform capable of handling increased traffic from student events, providing robust registration systems through Supabase, and representing the professional standards of the IEEE Student Branch at SCT.
System Architecture
The project is built as a highly modular Next.js application with a focus on speed and efficient content management:
- Frontend: Next.js (App Router) for SEO and server-side rendering, ensuring fast initial load times for event announcements.
- Backend & Registration: Integrated with Supabase for real-time member data management and Google Apps Script for automated event ticketing and email triggers, allowing for seamless registration workflows.
- Design System: A custom-designed professional UI following IEEE brand guidelines while maintaining a modern technical aesthetic.
Implementation
The system features a dynamic event lifecycle that automatically categorizes activities into upcoming and past categories based on real-time timestamps. Dedicated sub-pages were created for each technical society (RAS, ComSoc, PES, etc.) to showcase their leadership and achievements. Utilizing CSS entrance animations provided a premium feel without distracting from the site's functional goals.
Outcome
The successful launch modernized the branch's digital branding and significantly improved coordination efficiency. Registration workflows for critical events were streamlined, leading to higher participant conversion rates for major technical fests and workshops.
Lessons Learned
- Scalability: A modular component architecture facilitated an easy handover to the next generation of junior web developers.
- SEO: Implementing proper metadata and structured data significantly improved the site's discoverability for university-related searches.
